A Gentle Sunday

Today was a very gentle Sunday, it was warm with an ever so faint breeze. This morning and till mid afternoon we did nothing much. Mid afternoon, we headed into a local ancient town of Koszeg, where we found yet more churches and castles. Afterwards we went to the village where Les was born (Peresznye) and then onto Clara's village of (Sziri). In Sziri we met some of Clara's family still living there in what was her family home. Les reminisced with a shovel how he was working in a nearby coal mine 60 years ago. We also ducked down the  end of the street (about 400m) into Austria and back out again, no border staff.

Tomorrow, its off to Austria (again) by train from Szombathely to Salzburg, then onto Munich to Carola and Jurgies and then meet Joy on Wednesday at Munich airport after flying from Melbourne.

Hungary is a  very beautiful place and would be easy (and  cheap) to live here, especially during the Melbourne winter. The land is rich and fertile, there is wheat, corn, sunflowers everywhere you look, abundant underground water and the best ice creams in the world. Someday maybe, it would be a great base to use tour Europe and Budapest is possibly the grandest and possibly underrated city in Europe. I will comment more after visiting Berlin and Prague.

  1. Before you make a definitive statement about the best ice cream in the world, try the stuff served up by the big mamas in their little Lody shop at 83 Starowislna in downtown Krakow. The queue is often out the door onto the pavement.

  2. Hungary looks fab LB but the Italian ice cream ( and quality of flavors) take some beating.
