Today was a much needed rest day in Puno Peru. One of the team had negotiated a 10 am start for the Lake Titicaca tour to the floating islands. A group of islands out in the lake which are man made and float. They are tethered to the bottom with sticks and ropes. The main industry here is tourism, so many boats take tourists out the islands and they entertained by the locals with stories and customs. All pretty slick. We were back by around 2pm. At the moment, Peru is having elections in a few days and there are Political rallies and marches everywhere. The campaign this morning was for "K", the granddaughter of Fijimora, who was president in the 90s and known for being one of then most corrupt presidents around. They seem t have a lot of money to spend as they had purchased a fleet of boats to take the supporters out to the floating islands in a blaze of colour, noise and movement.
When I got back to the hotel, I thought a computer disaster had happened as my laptop told me I had no wi fi hardware, the same problem I had in Sweden in 2014, but there I was lucky enough to get it patched up. Not much chance of that happening here.
Luckily after closing down the computer for lunch, when I returned it had started working again (touch wood).
The altitude is really knocking me around this trip, it is struggle to do the simplest tasks, like getting on and off a boat or walking about. Hopefully in less than a week when we leave Cusco for lower levels, my vim and vigour will return.
