Although today was only around 300k, it was a long day, getting out of El Alto, the sister city of La Paz was a nightmare, major road construction and no clearly marked or planned detour routes, it was backstreets and twists and turns for almost 2 hrs to clear the city. It was then nearly three when we reached the border crossing and despite there being no congestion, it took another 4 hours to clear immigration, have lunch and then customs, the main wait was on the Peruvian side with customs. We put our clocks back another 1 hr and still arrived in Puno at 8.30pm Peru time. Tomorrow only has a trip on Lake Titicaca planned and not for all day, so that should be good. We had quite a few good views of Lake Titicaca today before it got dark and it looked good, very blue water and sky.

How does Titicaca compare to Baikal?

They are different, Titicaca is smaller and shallower and seems less severe, although I am sure it gets pretty cold here in winter. Baikal seems more remote and less populated.
