Arrived Kathmandu

Greetings one and all,

I have arrived in Kathmandu and it is fine, light breeze and about 30c. Very pleasant. I had a great view of the Himalaya on the flight in, India seems to be an expanse that goes on forever and then at the end of a great plain, the mountains are there. Did not seem to have a lot of foothills. It really is a great crunch of two plates colliding.

After very few formalities with visas and passports, the rest of the group arrived and we made our way through the (I am informed light) traffic to our hotel. The hotel Vaishali where we will spend nearly every night this week, except Thursday.

The group have all had showers and are refreshed and we are meeting at 3.30 to go for a walk around our hotel in the thammel district in the old part of Kathmandu. We will get some local currency then need to be back by 6.30 to start out Chinese visa application process. Then some dinner, a few beers and some sleep. Not  a lot of sleep last night on the flight up to Singapore.

Up at 5.30 am (10.30 Melb time) tomorrow morning for a scenic flight around Everest and other peaks, then back for breakfast. Lots of Jacaranda trees in bloom in Kathmandu, they seem to like it here.

Hopefully will have some pics to post later tonight or maybe tomorrow after flight.
