Yesnaby and Stromness

Today was a easy day, Joy took some photos in the morning and then we went into Kirkwall for lunch, in the afternoon we went to a place called Yesnaby, on the west coast, with views of Hoy, and Island to the south of Stromness.

Here are the pics.

Broch of Gurness, Brochs are common in the Northern and Western British isles, they are sort of Stone "Keeps" usually at the centre of a small village.

Next stop was St Magnus's church, only 950 years old

These Scots can be whacky

Below is St Magnus's cathedral in Kirkwall, different from the 1062 church.

Till tomorrow.

Happy 29th of September.

Around Scapa Flow

Yesterday, we came across Scapa Flow, today we went around it. A correction from yesterday, it wasn't the British that scuttled the German fleet in Scapa Flow, but the Germans. Look it up if you want to know more. There was a group of Germans in the Pub here tonight with Scapa German Recovery dive team of their shirts, I guess good luck with that task.

In case you ever wanted that real fish & chip shop taste, well that have bottled here in Orkney, you can now your salad sandwich taste like a fish&chip shop if you want.

This is the Northlight Gallery in Stromness that Joy has a small exhibition on at.
