Cu Chi Tunnels and AK 47

Todays expedition was north of the city to the Cu Chi tunnels, about 60km north of Saigon. The tunnels were used by the Viet Cong to hide from the US army. There is about 250km of tunnels in three depth levels in the area.  Here are some Pics

Above, jungle trap, note the nasty spikes below door.

You could buy real bullets and fire off the rounds at the firing range, either AK 47 or M16 Army rifles. I decided I could not afford the ammo so I declined the opportunity. However this video highlights the sounds of guns firing.

This was the site but not the building of the US embassy in Saigon, where the tanks famously went through the front gates during the fall of Saigon. The old embassy building was demolished in about 1998.

We tested out the bikes this afternoon and early tomorrow we head off to Dalat. It will be a slow all day ride.
