Hustai National Park & Mongolian National Song & Dance Ensemble

Today was a very early start at 5am to go to Hustai (sometimes spelt and pronounced as Khustai) National Park to see the wild Mongolian Horses which are reported to be the ancestor of all horses. These guys are called Takhi and were  reintroduced back into the wild after dying out completely in Mongolia. They had them living in Zoos and other places around the world and in 1993 reintroduced them to the National Park. Google the Przewalski Horse for more info.

Afterwards, I joined the same group that was on the trip to the park (a Swiss, Dane, Pole and Aussie) and we went to see the Mongolian National Song & Dance Ensemble. It was well worth the ticket price for a 1 hr show, there was throat singing, (very talented), national folk songs, a contortionist (backbone totally flexed in any direction) and some other singing and dancing. Costumes were great and very colourful, a good show. (no pictures allowed)

Afterwards we went for a drink, firstly to an irish pub which had no guiness  (2nd Irish Pub in UB not to have Guiness. and then onto another pub. No one could understand the food menu so we left the pub and found a local cafe. Food here is cheap, for a plate of potato salad and a big plate of Noodles with beef cost me less than A$5.

  1. An Irish pub with no Guinness; a bit like the bring-your-own food restaurant you found in Munich.
