Skara Brae

More exploring today, including a drive around the main island and lunch at the Orkney Brewery. (Fergus, Orkney Distillery is closed on a Sunday). Visiting various tourist spots and finishing back in Kirkwall at the Cathedral and then Indian take away for dinner.

Pics

Above two, Stromness early this morning

The label says ShiteShirts

Houses built for Joy Height, well almost.

Skara Brae, Europes oldest known civilised place (5,000 Years old)

Skaill House, the Country estate where Skara Brae was uncovered in the 1850s

Broch of Gurness, Brochs are common in the Northern and Western British isles, they are sort of Stone "Keeps" usually at the centre of a small village.

Next stop was St Magnus's church, only 950 years old

These Scots can be whacky

Below is St Magnus's cathedral in Kirkwall, different from the 1062 church.

Till tomorrow.

Happy 29th of September.
