Birmingham

Today was a side trip to Birmingham, mainly to catch up with niece Elisha and her husband John for dinner, but also to visit Birmingham as I have never been there before. In fact, Birmingham was a surprise to me and much nicer than I expected, not a huge city but very nice (in parts). I expected all high rise council flats and 90% West Indies population. It was not like that and looked good. We passed Edgbaston Cricket stadium on are way in as we made our way to Moseley, where Elisha and John live.

The day was perfect weather, we secured a car park and got the bus into town (about 10 min) dropping us at "the Bull Ring" shopping centre near St Martins Church at the centre of Birmingham.

Joy went off to do gallery stuff whilst I had lunch (very nice pie) and buy some t shirts. I even earned 5 GBP cash for answering a market research study on some new alco-pop cider made from Apples and oranges. It was OK but nothing to rave about. We got the bus back to Moseley and waited for John and Elisha to arrive home. We waited at the pub across the road and got befriended by "Brenden" and 74 yo irishman who was pissed as a fart and reckons he came form Limerick and had been living in Birmingham since 1960. We wished him luck and made our goodbyes, luckily John was home by then.

We then had a delicious Moroccan meal washed down with a few reds. Coffee and Chockies after. It was good to catch up. John took some great photos on their recent Africa trip.

  1. You've done it now. We've avoided Birmingham on advice and now seems we shouldn't have.
