Beers and Icecream

Today was a rest day from driving and an opportunity to look around Riga a bit better than a flying visit can afford. Both Joy and I had different agendas for the day. Hers was to visit Museums and Galleries, mine was to pursue beers and ice creams. Both of us had a reasonably successful day.

Here are todays selected Pics.

Above, St Peters Church, Old Town Riga

This building is called Blackheads and is meant to represent German Wealth in Latvia, how- No Idea, homework for somebody.

Some left Over Soviet Sculptures sitting outside the Museum of Soviet Occupation of Latvia.

This rather grand building across the ricer appears top be the Latvian Railway Museum, or at least thats what the Map says. Obviously railways were important in Latvia.

One of the Local canals around Riga

Some bronze Riga pigs to compete with Moscows's Dog and Pragues Willie

I also had a beer flavoured ice-cream near here, combining both goals. It was some Latvian dark Ale Flavour but to me tatted like Rum'n'raisin and not beer.

Riga has many animal statues and icon symbols associated with and around the city. However without doubt, the cities undisputed mascot is the Black cat that sits atop this rooftop in the Old city.

An unusual building with a shiny roof.

Me and a eock

Beers

Hotel pet rabbits up on the rooftop garden (some Chefs have a Herb Garden, this one has a Rabbit Garden)

Off to Estonia tomorrow

  6. The fairy tale depicted by the statues of the donkey, dog, cat and rooster is "the musicians of Bremen". Wonder what the link is with Latvia??
