Ich bin ein Berliner

Not only I am in Berlin, but I am in East Berlin. The Karl Marx Allee is a sight to behold, Soviet style buildings all along the  "allee" which is about a full block across, these soviets could teach the Romans a thing or two about building grand roads.

Easy drive up from Prague today, stopped briefly at Dresden for Lunch, you could see from the remaining buildings not destroyed in the allied bombing of Dresden during WW11 that this was once a grand city like Prague. In fact Prague did get bombed by the Americans during WW11 because they mistook it for Dresden. Why they wanted to bomb Dresden at all is one of life's mysteries.

 Cool and Refreshing

Its beer o'clock

It was 32c in Berlin today

Tomorrow, it is off to explore even more buildings, monuments, museums and churches and, the occasional bit of crumbling wall.

Hasta la Vista

P.s Happy Birthday Billy Boy, I can leave you with this good advice.

The German word for good is Gut, the German word for journey or travel is Fahrt.

Hence on Munich Trams, the signs wish a a "Gut Fahrt"

  1. Many thanks you very luck b. I have Berlin envy. To the boozer for dinner tonight and at least one celebratory Pernod to your health. I assume many Gut fahrts will ensue. It was the Brits that wanted to bomb Dresden. It was in retaliation for the German bombing of medieval Coventry during the Battle of Britain. One unique city for another.
