What Irks me!

Irk is a good word, when used in the right context, it is a good illustration of the subtlety yet precision of english.

irk

 [urk]  Show IPA
verb (used with object)
to irritate, annoy, or exasperate: It irked him to wait in line.
Origin:
1300–50; Middle English irken  to grow tired, tire < Old Norse yrkja  to work, cognate with Old English wyrcan; see work

chafe, fret, bother; tire.

It Irks me that in Tallinn, Estonia, BMW 5 series cars, like the lovely 540 I used to own are used here as clapped out taxis. It further Irks me that later model 5 sees BNWs are being commonly driven here by youths who wear their baseball caps on sideways. Moreover, the most recent model 5, 7 and X series are being driven by those same youths in the baseball caps, only a few years older and sans the baseball caps. They still have the "tracky daks" with reflective stripping along the sides. The level of disrespect for such a classic and refined piece of automotive engineering is further  undermined  and illustrated by the "Army Green" 5 series spotted parking near the hostel.
