Arrived Montevideo - Uruguay

Hi all,

We arrived on the shark cat ferry (built in Hobart, Tasmania) from Buenos Aires to Montevideo this afternoon. It took a little over 2 hrs. We had a relaxed day in Buenos Aires, the weather was beautiful, clear blue skies, warm and clear. It is easy to see how Buenos Aires (Clean or good Air) got is name. We had a delightful lunch, more steak and Malbec from Mendoza region.

The only downer of the day was we got bird poo scammed. It happened just as we were walking back to the ferry terminal. Bill was behind me and next thing I know there was a woman (in 50s) and sounding german coming up behind bill claiming he had been hit by bird poo, Bill tells me that I have also been hit. I was immediately suspicious and was trying to watch what this woman was doing, pretending to wipe Bill off with tissues. I got us both away from there as there were other people starting to mill around. When we go to the terminal, Bill realised his tablet was missing from his backpack. I don't know how they did it, but they were quick and effective. I lost nothing and Bill only lost the tablet. I think there must have been someone up in a tree above the street as a bird doesn't shit on two targets.

Bill is now going through a world of pain making phone calls to banks etc to limit what damage someone with the tablet may do having access to info on the tablet.

  1. Re the theft - what an absolute bummer! I often say that we share the world with some terrible people :-( Hope that Bill has been able to minimise his looses. Just as well you were alert to it Doug, else you may have lost more.
