Day 4 Travelling South

It was an early start today, leaving at 6.30 to negotiate Santiago Subway to Central station to catch an 8.15 train (5.5 hrs) to Chillan. After that a (1.5 hr) bus ride to Concepcion Airport to collect a hire car. It all went fairly smoothly until we got the car and the GPS. First we tried heading into Central Concepcion, we got there but it was bumper to bumper traffic all the way, no where to park and busy busy busy. The next bright idea was to go to the beach or sea, choice was nearby place called Talcahuan, which also meant a fight through traffic, road works, detours and shitty looking areas. Funnily, one of the main streets we ended up on more than once was Colon avenue. The whole place seemed like a crap place to me. When we got to what I thought would be a beach place, it turned out to be a newport/spotswood industrial and chemical wasteland. Very smelly.

After that we headed back to Chilean to a hotel we had booked. Tomorrow, we will head south to Valdivia. Hopefully the day will go better. Not many shots today, although a bit limited in the train and bus. Some countryside looked pretty good. Lots of wine produced around here. Sort of Chilean Barossa Valley.

Hotel in Santiago agreed to post my postcards, so hopefully will be arriving soon.
