Montevideo - Uruguay

Hi,

Well I have clocked up another country in my passport and the pages are getting pretty full. We were told that Montevideo is like Buenos Aires, except slower and smaller. I guess it is certainly slower and not as hectic as BA, but smaller, well maybe just. It seems well laid out and is perhaps not quite as grand as BA, but it certainly is not small. The expansive River Plate dominates the horizion on the southern side of town.

We got off to a late start this morning. First we headed in a taxi to the old part of town down near the markets. The markets (just near the ports) have been converted from markets to mostly Parrilla (or BBQ) places with occasional T shirt and souvenir shops. It was still a bit early for lunch so we headed for the pink hop on hop off tourist bus.  The Bus trip took 2 hours to make a round trip of the city, that sort of gives you some idea of the size. It was good to look at all the houses and shopping streets and golf links and parks and beaches etc. Pics attached.

It was better to get back to the market and some cold beer and BBQ's meat stuff. Yum Yum.

After lunch (about 3.30) it was taxi back to hotel for me, but Bill, wanted to walk all over the city and see everything (so knowing Bill, he will be distracted at every turn and will get home about 1. am. )
