Montmorency Falls - Quebec

Bonjour mes petit chéris.

Another day exploring Quebec city, this time, courtesy of the local bus services, a little further afield.

First order of the day was to post home some extra stuff we did not really need to carry around with us any more and reduce the weight of our luggage. 6.6 kg and CDN 110 for surface post.

Travellers Tip

Tip 1- If you think you don't need something, dump it before you leave, if you think you do need something, consider dumping anyway.

After boosting the Canadian economy via its postal service, we discovered we could get a day pass on local buses for $7 and go anywhere on them all day.

Tip 2, Buses are cheap compared with tourist buses.

We then went to a different part of town past the Laval University, it was like a string of downtown shopping malls, although it seemed a long way from the old city. Food was a bit cheaper and there were more normal shops instead of "expensive tourist shops". It was mainstream North America, big roads, large buildings, it was like being on a different planet after the European feel of the Old city.

I also noticed that once you leave the Old City tourist part, peoples ability to speak fluent english drops away markedly.

After that we got on another bus for about 80 mins and went to the end of the line, past a lot of quant North American houses to Montmorency Falls. It was also good to see some of the Fall colours of the trees changing, not many reds yet, but I think fast approaching. It seems the official tourist or summer season here seems to end of October 12, a few days ago. Whilst the weather is still mild, many places and services have stopped operating. Our B&B proprietor told me this morning she will be shutting down soon and not reopen until May 2015. Apparently, not many people come to Quebec in the winter.

Tomorrow is another travel day, by Bus to Montreal  (about 3 hrs)

The Price Building, view from our back balcony. The purple lights at the top flash on and off like its sending a musical signal like in Close encounters of the 3rd kind!

Mainstream North America

View from the falls, we were going to take a boat ride to see the falls but glad we didn't because the boat stops beyond this bridge and the view would not have been as good.

Check out the steps, that would kill me.

  1. Maybe willingness rather than ability to speak English?
