Hanoi Fireworks

Today was reunification day, 40th anniversary since the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. The general view is this celebrated more in the south of Vietnam, rather than Hanoi in the north. Nonetheless, it was a public holiday here today, as it is tomorrow, Mayday and there was a fireworks display on in central Hanoi, over the lake tonight from 9.pm to 9.15pm. Plenty of noise, movement and color. The locals all lined up upon the edge of the lake to see the show, apart from a bit of rain, all went well.

Earlier in the day I had seen most of the rest of the tour group off in bus to the airport to fly back to Aust. A couple called Kevin and Peta stayed and it was with them I had dinner down by the south end of the lake with a good view of the fireworks. I also managed to change rooms at the Hotel, arrange my travel arrangements to Sapa and return, also my flight (9th of May) to Luang Prabang in Laos and 3 nights accommodation there. I head off to Sapa early on the 5th of May when I check out of current hotel.

Pics for today (sorry for delay,  internet at Hotel crashed before loading pics and did not come good until this morning)

Looks amazing. Fireworks and rockets must be an interesting way for older Vietnamese to celebrate?
